Our New Monthly Show at Theatre Asylum; This Month with Broken Engleesh

The Magic Meathands are movin’ on up!

After our exciting Hollywood show with The Trans4merz last month, we’re happy to announce that Theatre Asylum and the Magic Meathands have reached an agreement for a monthly show.

Every fourth Saturday from 5 PM to 7 PM, the Magic Meathands will take over the Asylum Lab to present fully improvised comedy. Through our community outreach efforts, we know that the more laughter we share, the more we all benefit. So we’ll continue to feature exceptional improv groups and other comedy acts by sharing the bill with a different act every month – hence the name of the show Tag Team Comedy. We do this to introduce audiences to exceptionally funny people, and to introduce exceptionally funny people to new audiences.

Saturday, November 24th, at 5 PM, we are thrilled to bring you Broken Engleesh, currently up to a 9-week winning streak at the iO West Cage Match. Keep watching our Schedule and check back here or on the Magic Meathands Facebook Page for more announcements on future shows at Theatre Asylum. Tickets are $7 at the door, but we now offer online purchasing of tickets at a discounted rate of only $5.00 through Brown Paper Tickets.

The Magic Meathands invade Hollywood for special Halloween Show and Late Night Show

We’ve got a mini-tour of Hollywood on our hands!

Saturday, October 27th, we’ll be appearing at Theatre Asylum on Santa Monica Blvd. for a special Halloween Show with The Trans4merz, a skilled improv team regularly appearing at Fanatic Salon. The show starts at 8 PM. Tickets are $7, but if you show up in costume, you’ll get $2 off! If you show up with a lame attempt at a costume (“uh… I’m Styrofoam Cup Man!”), you’ll get $1 off! As if that isn’t enough, you’ll also get special trick or treat candy for each suggestion that is used.

Then, on Saturday, November 3, we’re at Neon Venus on Melrose Ave. for a late night show with Capital T, the 2012 iO West LA Improv Festival Harold Champions. There will also be other improvisers, so it’s a great opportunity to see some wall-to-wall comedy! The show starts at 9:30 pm and tickets are $7. (Note: This is a rescheduling of tonight’s regular Tag Team Comedy show.)

We hope you can join us as we venture out of the west side. We’re constantly hearing from fans, so now is your chance! If we get a strong showing, we’ll know we need to do it more, so we hope to see you.

October has improv with David Razowsky, Capital T, and Barney Five

The Magic Meathands have a full October scheduled for you!

On Saturday, October 13, starting at 8 PM, we are teaming up with the improv group Barney Five, which is made up of such veteran improvisers Ben Benjamin, Travis Stanberry, Jeff Perdue, Keri Blunt, and Angela Espinosa. You’ll get a night of fully improvised comedy suitable for the entire family. So bring the kids, bring grandma, bring your neighbors, bring yourself!

Then the following Saturday, on October 20, also starting at 8 PM, we team up with Capital T, the 2012 iO West LA Improv Festival Harold Champions. Magic Meathand alum Jason Palmer is part of this group when he’s not writing for television sitcoms, so we’ll be excited to see him again. Watch our Facebook page for the confirmed line-up.

Both shows will be at Heyler (realty office by day, comedy theater by night!), 10659 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064.

Tickets are $7.00.

Check our Upcoming Shows or Events on Facebook for more info.

And when we’re not performing for you, we’ll be doing our second rehearsal with David Razowsky. He’s a very talented and funny teacher that has worked with a lot of impressive people and done a lot of impressive things. But really it all pales in comparison to kissing Stephen Colbert so passionately that Steve Carell gets jealous.

Reuniting with Distant Relatives

This Saturday night, we’re doing a special Family Friendly Show at Heyler. Two improv groups join forces to bring you a full night of improv comedy appropriate for the whole family. While staying sharp we’ll offer a night for grownups where they can feel comfortable bringing the youngsters along.

This month’s show also includes the improv comedy group Distant Relatives of The Improv Space!

Tickets: $7 ($3 for kids 12 & under)

Heyler is on the northeast corner of Pelham, one block east of Overland Ave. Parking meters are free at night but read parking signs carefully.

(And next Saturday night, we’re teaming up with the improv group Gielgud!)

Tag Team Comedy x2!

The best logo ever?

This month we’re doing things a little different. It’s good to shake things up every once in a while. After all, isn’t that what improvisation is all about? And improvising is what the Magic Meathands are all about. (Unless we’re doing something else. Then we’re all about that other thing.)

Normally we have a Family Friendly show on the second Saturday of the month, but it turns out August is bursting with Tag Team Comedy! So you get back-to-back Saturdays of Tag Team Comedy where we join forces with another comedy act to bring you a full night of fun-tertainment. (I’m sorry for ending that sentence like that. It was wrong of me. I’ve learned my lesson, but at a terrible price.)

This Saturday, August 11th, we’ve got Battlesocks for the first time! They just finished an impressive run at the Westside Comedy Theater‘s House Team Tournament, and now they’re going to celebrate with us. They will fight for their right to wear socks starting at 8 PM and then the Meathands will hit the stage at 9. Don’t miss your chance to catch this group of rising stars.

Then Saturday, August 18th, it’s the return of Fun Night Live! This is a full-on variety show with comedians, musicians and unpredictable performers. They regularly perform at our old stomping ground The Spot Café and Lounge in Culver City and they were a blast when we had them join us at the Mary Pickford Studio.

So there you have it. Two weeks of live entertainment you can’t find anywhere else.

Tickets: Only $7.00!

NEW VENUE:
Heyler’s
10659 West Pico Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90064
(one block east of Overland)

PARKING: The meters on Pico Blvd. do not need to eat after 6 PM. They’re on a special diet. Yes, that’s right, free street parking on Pico Blvd.! But look closely at the signs if you park on the side streets off Pico.

Meet a Meathand: Paige Kimball and Ending Up

Paige Morrow Kimball

The Magic Meathands are a talented bunch. When we’re not performing, we’re often working on all kinds of projects. Take for example Paige Morrow Kimball. In addition to being a funny improviser and Meathand, she’s also a film director, producer and screenwriter. She’s currently working on Ending Up, a short comedy film (Paige’s third) about starting over, in the middle.

The film explores the ironies of divorce, true friendship and happy endings for four women in their forties. The story begins as Sadie’s divorce is about to be finalized. To cheer her up, her best friends, Terri, Blair and Maddie, throw her a divorce party and take her out to celebrate. But before the night is over, their girl’s night out takes a turn that none of them ever expected. Can Sadie let go of the past and open the door to a new beginning?

The film is being independently made and since none of us are millionaires quite yet, Paige and her team, which includes actor/producer Jenica Bergere (The Drew Carey Show, Modern Family), could use your help. They need $7,300 to make the movie they want. If you’ve ever wanted to participate in movie-making, here’s your chance! Donations come with special benefits like getting a download or DVD of the movie, behind-the-scenes info, a private screening, a walk-on part, and more. Check out their Kickstarter page for a video and more information. Any donations made by tomorrow at midnight Pacific time will be matched by their producing partner up to $1,000. They have have 18 more days to raise the money!

Caution: Danger Pants Approaching

This Saturday night, the Magic Meathands team up with Danger Pants, an improv group so impressive, they will fill your pants with laughter… dangerous laughter.

The show is happening this Saturday night, 8 PM, at Heyler. Tickets are $7. RSVP on Facebook, if you like.
